Research, design, and creation of a walking dress from 1875. Colours and style were inspired by a fashion plate from an 1875 Parisian magazine (left). Project done for the class “Aesthetics of Historical Dress” at Dalhousie, 2025.
Skirt, overskirt, and bodice made with 100% silk taffeta in three colours: rusty orange, yellow off-white, and seafoam .
Bodice is lined with white glazed cotton and structured with bones. It includes darts, back pleats, hooks and eyes closure as well as a waist tape. It is decorated with hand-sewn contrasting piping, bows, and cotton lace.
Skirt include a side seam pocket, pleats, hem guard and braid, as well as a row pleated trims. Overskirt is gathered at the back and decorated with pleated trim and bows.
