1875 Promenade Dress

Research, design, and creation of a walking dress from 1875. Colours and style were inspired by a fashion plate from an 1875 Parisian magazine (left). Project done for the class “Aesthetics of Historical Dress” at Dalhousie, 2025.

Skirt, overskirt, and bodice made with 100% silk taffeta in three colours: rusty orange, cornsilk, and seafoam, all from Renaissance Fabrics.

Bodice is lined with white glazed cotton and structured with bones. It includes darts, back pleats, hooks and eyes closure as well as a waist tape. It is decorated with hand-sewn contrasting piping, bows, and cotton lace.

Skirt include a side seam pocket, pleats, hem guard and braid, as well as a row pleated trims. Overskirt is gathered at the back and decorated with pleated trim and bows.
